The Boating Life - September 2013

Fellow Boaters -

Labor Day Weekend is here and gone but don't worry, looks like there is plenty of beautiful boating weather in store.  I really love our cartoon this month because it hits very close to home.

I just sent my youngest daughter off to college and was lucky enough to spend 5 days on a 441 Meridian Sedan Bridge with the whole family before both daughters went off to college.

Check out the cartoon below and the pictures from our trip as well.  If you have kids and are a boater, I think you'll relate!

So, here's what else we have on tap for you this month:

  • 5 Important Maintenance Items for Your Boat
  • Featured New and Pre-Owned Boats
  • Invitation to The 12th Annual Hall Marine Boat Expo
  • The Jeff Hall Family Boating Pictures
  • As always, let's start with a little boating fun...

A Little Boating Fun

Skipper's Corner - 5 Maintenance Items for Your Boat
As we enter the month of September, it's time to start thinking about what you can do now to prepare for the dreaded winter months.

1.  Start by making a list of any items you've been meaning to address during the season but just didn't get done; Tightening a screw, Adjusting a hatch or door, Fixing a snap on your canvas cover.  Be sure to put on your end of season maintenance list so it doesn't drive you crazy next season.

2.  Your impeller, when was the last time it was changed?  If you don't know, it may be time to have it done.  The typical maintenance schedule is every 3 to 5 years

3.  Your oil and gear lube, when was the last time they were changed?  Keeping your fluid changes done on the recommended schedule will keep your boat in tip top shape and if you keep the records, may just help with resale down the line.

4.  A fresh buff and wax.  Is your gel coat shinning the way it used to?  If not, a buff and wax can make a big difference.  If stored out in the sun, doing 2x's per year may be necessary.  If stored inside, every year will do the trick in most cases.

5.  Your annual maintenance:  Because each boat and engine are very different, it always makes sense to have an annual service performed on your boat.  It may be time to change out batteries, change our a filter, change a belt or hose or just tighten some fittings.  This time of year is the perfect time to inspect your boat and perform any items that need to be addressed before they become an expensive repair.

If you're someone who enjoys this work, your Hall Marine Parts and Accessory department is always happy to assist with any supplies needed.

Or, contact your local Hall Marine Service Department and we can handle all of your end of season maintenance needs with our Certified Technicians.  We are just an easy phone call or email away.  Be sure to ask about our end of season specials in the month of September.

The Hall Family Voyage from Florida to Charleston Picking Up a 441 Meridian Yacht Before
Their Girls Go Off to College
What a way to spend the last week with my daughters before they leave for college.  My wife Laura and I treasured the time on the water with our girls and the boat wasn't too bad either!  Check out a quick video running the 441 Meridian off shore.

I hope you enjoy the photos...but there is no way to know how much I cherished this time spent with my family on the water with no distractions!  Man did my little girls grow up fast!  Way to fast!
